HAMILTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (WABC) -- Police have made an arrest after a woman was found fatally stabbed inside her Hamilton Heights apartment on Saturday morning.

34-year-old Alexander Felix was arrested and charged with murder and burglary after 48-year-old Eloise Liz was found around 4 a.m. in an apartment on West 153 Street.

Cries for help could be heard all over the building throughout the night.

"I was sleeping, and about three in the morning, I heard anger voices, arguments going on and I didn't think anything of it. I should've called 911, I should've done something," said Yvette Cruz.

The cries did lead to someone calling 911, but it wasn't until later in the morning that the people who live in the Hamilton Heights apartment building realized the horrors behind the cries for help.

"When I get up to go to work, I see the blood on the floor," added William Gonzalez.

Police arrived to find Liz stabbed multiple times. EMS crews arrived, pronouncing her dead.

Liz was a woman who many in this building tell Eyewitness News that they knew - someone who was a friend to many. News of her death left many in tears.

"She loved dogs, and she's a good lady. She's Cuban. She would say hi, you would feel welcome around her," said Nelson Lopez.

This is the second time recently people in the Hamilton Heights building have awoken to crime tape. Less than two months ago, a mother and her four-year-old son were killed inside one of the apartments. The child's father was later arrested after he was seen on camera inside.
