CERT volunteers celebrate 10 years of service to UWS

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- Eyewitness News Anchor Bill Ritter was honored Wednesday night to help salute citizen volunteers of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

CERT volunteers are trained in fire safety and crisis management to help the New York police and fire departments.

The Upper West Side group celebrated 10 years together at an event at the Museum of Natural History.

A total of 1,500 New York City CERT members help to keep residents safe.
