NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Two teens were shot, one of them fatally, in Newark on Friday afternoon.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. on the 400 block of Hawthorne Avenue, across the street from a community garden and close to an elementary school.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, Malik Bullock, 16, of Newark, was fatally shot.

A 17-year-old boy, also shot, remains hospitalized and is stable, according to the prosecutor's office. His name is not being released for security reasons.

It's not yet clear what led to the shooting.

So far there are no arrests.

The investigation is ongoing.
