Fire burning on Upper East Side closes section of 2nd Avenue

UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- A three-alarm fire on the Upper East Side, clogged Second Avenue with fire department activity Thursday.

The fire broke out in the basement of the Second Avenue building just before 6:15 a.m. It extended into the walls and up all five stories.

Two people were hurt.

Second Avenue was closed from East 92 Street to East 96 Street.

Firefighters also had to work around two lanes of Second Avenue that were closed due to ongoing Second Avenue subway construction.
