Police shoot man after roommate stabbing in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn

CYPRESS HILLS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting in a Brooklyn neighborhood Sunday.

Officials said they responded around 9 p.m. to calls of two roommates fighting outside a home on Shepherd Avenue in Cypress Hills.

They found several men who they said are roommates.

One roommate came into the apartment with a knife when police were investigating, according to New York City Police Chief Jeffrey Maddrey, and began to stab another roommate.

Police said the man, 31-year-old Francis DeJesus, stabbed his roommate at least two times in both forearms, as other roommates began to run away. See the knife here:

Police told DeJesus to drop the knife, then fired once to protect the roommate who was being stabbed, said Maddrey. The man immediately fell and was taken to Brookdale Hospital.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he is stable. At least two or three NYPD officers were taken to Jamaica Hospital for observation.

The investigation is ongoing.

The stabbing victim and DeJesus are expected to survive.

It is unclear what sparked the dispute.

Police have charged DeJesus with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
