Local lawmakers react to Virginia shooting
Dray Clark has reaction from local lawmakers to the shooting in Alexandria.

NEW YORK, New York (WABC) -- Members of Congress from the New York area took to Twitter to offer their initial reaction to the shooting in Alexandria, Virginia that left at least 5 wounded, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

Scalise of Louisiana, was shot by a rifle-wielding gunman Wednesday at a congressional baseball practice. Capitol Police said officers who were part of Scalise's security detail returned fire and wounded the shooter, who was taken into custody. In all, five people were taken to area hospitals, including the suspect, Alexandria police said.

New York's senior Senator Chuck Schumer expressed his gratitude to the Capitol Police officers, tweeting "their bravery saved lives in VA this morning. Thank you."

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand echoed Schumer's reaction.
