NEW YORK (WABC) -- Before you book your summer vacation, 7 On Your Side has tips on how to save hundreds on last minute summer travel.

Whether you're jetting off, hitting the "high" seas, the highway or hopping on a train. Retailmenot's Sara Skirboll says Summer travel is on sale.

"Especially if you're planning on hitting the Caribbean, flights, cruises even hotels are heavily discounted just because the weather's a little iffy," Skirboll said.

Hurricane season means you roll the dice on late summer travel to the Southern states and the Caribbean. But look at the savings. A non-stop, round-trip flight for the last week in August, LaGuardia to Miami, is $303 on Delta. Fly in November, that same trip is $707.

Skirboll also says flying to "hidden" airports can save you money. Many times low cost air carriers will fly in and out of smaller airports near you.

We put her theory to the test. Taking off from Atlantic City Airport to Puerto Rico on July 3rd was just $177 dollars on Spirit Airlines. While Newark to San Juan will cost you $237.

$60 bucks more per ticket. For a family of four that saves $240 bucks, may be worth the drive to Atlantic City.

Once you get to your destination, before you rent a car, and pay extra for insurance. Review the coverage on your personal car insurance policy it may extend to a rental. Your credit card may offer protection too.

Just make sure you call to fully understand what your credit card covers for before denying the offer. And once you book your travel watch out for a clever hoax targeting airline passengers.

Adam Levin's ID theft company, CyberScout warned us about this trick email disguised to look like travel confirmation from a major airline,

"If you click on this, it takes you to a site that's loaded with Malware," Levin said.

The big takeway: never click on emailed links, always go directly to the website.
