NEW YORK -- Operation Backpack 2017 is closing the back to school gap with backpacks.

Through August 4th, you can help out Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-GNY) with their massive effort to send thousands of kids to school with the tools they need.

The project is helping disadvantaged children who live in homeless and domestic violence shelters throughout the 5 boroughs.

You can help out by organizing a drive, donating supplies, or you can send the campaign a financial gift.

Rachel Weinstein, the founder of OPERATION BACKPACK, joined us in the studio to share more about the campaign.
