76-year-old woman found killed in her home in Newark

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Remon Rodriguez has known 76-year-old Adela Padilla for twenty years, and like many on Summer Avenue in Newark, he is shocked and saddened to hear that his friend was murdered.

"I don't think she had any enemies...she would always say hello to everybody," Rodriguez said.

Adela Padilla was discovered at 7:30 Saturday morning inside her home where neighbors say she lived with her daughter and granddaughter. It is not known if they were home at the time her body was found.

The cause of Padilla's death is pending an autopsy, but it is being investigated as a homicide.

Others who knew Padilla say she was friendly and pleasant.

"She was a good lady, real humble - always showing love to everybody," added neighbor Omar Melendez.

No arrests have been made.
