Anthony Johnson has the latest on the two teens shot in Newark in what looks like a retaliation shooting

Two teenagers were shot near a Newark school early Tuesday morning, and police say it may be revenge for another shooting that happened as recently as the night before.

Authorities say a 15-year-old and 16-year-old were the targets of the shooting, which happened before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Muhammad Ali Avenue and Jelliff Avenue.

A black vehicle driving near the intersection opened fire on the two teens, shooting one in the hand and the other in the backside.

Authorities say they have some strong leads, but no arrests so far. They believe the shooting to be in retaliation for another incident that occurred Monday night that resulted in one arrest and the recovery of three guns.

Both incidents are part of a disturbing pattern in Newark, involving two groups of teens who are armed and wreaking havoc on the city.

According to city officials, bail reform is also having an effect on the city. More people who are arrested on gun charges are getting out of jail quicker, and city officials want that practice to stop.
