Field Trip: Take a ride on a Breitling DC-3

TETERBORO, New Jersey (WABC) -- A WWII-Era plane brought back to life to circle the globe for a great cause? YES.

Breitling helped restore this DC-3, which was delivered to American Airlines in 1940 and first used by the American military between 1942 and 1944, before resuming service on behalf of various commercial airlines.

Restored by a group of dedicated enthusiasts, it now flies under Breitling colors and participates in a variety of airshows.

This year, Breitling launched its DC-3 on a major round-the-world tour, encompassing the Middle East, India, South-East Asia, North America and Europe.

At 77 years old, the Breitling DC-3 is the oldest airplane to undertake a round the world tour and this new claim to fame will be one more to add to the already long list of its achievements.

Breitling will donate money from the global tour to The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to help provide humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries.
