New Jersey Senator Booker vows to help DACA recipients fight deportation

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- Hundreds of thousands of young immigrants who are now facing deportation after President Trump ended DACA are now trying to figure out what they are going to do next.

Monday, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker meet with a group to talk about options.

The face-to-face between DACA recipients and Sen. Booker is just another step in efforts to fight against possible deportation.

The group includes a number of working college students who don't receive welfare, scholarships, or government aide, but are still striving to reach the American dream.

"It's a very scary time. Our futures are insecure. I had to pause school cause of the situation," said Sara Mora, DACA recipient.

The recipients have been here since childhood. None are very familiar with their native country.

They have concerns, especially when they see what taking place in nations like Venezuela where desperation is spreading and Daniela doesn't want to face that conflict if she is forced to return.

"I have American dreams I set myself, I continue going, I continue growing. It's hard to fathom that in six months if nothing happens you're going to be sent back," Daniela said.

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez is also supporting these DACA students and spoke out right after the Trump administration rescinded the policy.

Now the DACA recipients are getting support from Sen. Booker.

"We believe this is the land of opportunity and we're going to just keep fighting for that and keep having hope and faith in this country," said Gabriella Triveno, DACA recipient.

Some recipients could not hold back their emotions while talking about the challenges they face.

"It is a time where we're all scared. Our community is being attacked and our families are being attacked," Mora said.

"I'm fighting so I never have to face that fear," said Tony Choi, DACA recipient.

DACA protests have been taking place across the country in support of the 800,000 recipients who vow to stay.

Sen. Booker says he will fight to keep the DACA recipients in the United States.

"I'm going to do everything in my power to be a part of your movement for justice in our country," Sen. Booker said.
