Girl sworn-in by NYPD dies of cancer
LOWER MANHATTAN (WABC) -- Karma Little, the seven-year-old Georgia girl who dreamed of becoming a police officer while battling neuroblastoma, has died. She was sworn-in as an honorary NYPD officer last fall.
Her parents announced her death on their Facebook page, saying she passed away in her daddy's arms.
Little underwent several surgeries and received treatment in New York over the years.
During one of her many rounds of chemotherapy, Karma met New York City Police Department officer Sara Moran in the hospital.
"She says to me, 'oh my goodness, I didn't know girls could be cops.' She said 'are you real?'," said Moran. "So, I said 'absolutely', and from that moment on, we just developed such a strong bond."
Last November, the men and women in blue rolled out a huge red carpet for Karma, making her an honorary officer in the Central Park precinct. After taking the oath, she toured the precinct, took part in roll call, patrolled the finish of line of the New York Marathon and mingled with many of the NYPD's finest.
Upon learning of her death, NYPD Central Park tweeted, "Karma will always be a part of our NYPD family. We will miss that smile."
Little died days before she was to visit the San Francisco Police Department.
