Delays on NJ Transit after man struck by train in Newark
NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- A man was struck by a NJ Transit train in Newark Friday morning, causing delays on two lines for the morning commute.
It happened just west of the Broad Street station at around 5:30 a.m.
The man was hit by Montclair Boonton line train 6202, which started at Montclair State University.
He was pinned between the train and retaining wall. It took two hours for emergency workers to carefully extricate him from the precarious position.
He was taken to University Hospital in Newark with a serious injury.
The 130 customers and crew on the train were not injured.
NJ Transit service was suspended on the Morris and Essex line from East Orange to Penn Station New York and Hoboken and on the Montclair-Boonton Line from Watsessing Ave to Penn Station New York and Hoboken.
Service resumed with delays of up to 90 minutes.
NJT Rail passes/tickets are being cross-honored by NJT Bus, DeCamp Bus and Lakeland Bus.
NJ Transit says the person was trespassing on the tracks.
