7 On Your Side: Disappearing wire transfer

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A seamstress to the stars is missing thousands of dollars after some wire transfers went missing.

"I don't know what to do," said Janet Bloor, seamstress.

She's is not only on deadline for three productions she's making costumes for, she's hanging by a thread, and desperate to track down tens of thousands of dollars M.I.A. during what should've been a routine wire transfer.

"This time the money just didn't get there," Bloor said. "I kept calling my recipient. It was never getting there."

The seamstress to the stars, who's made costumes for everything from Broadway plays to the ballet, was wiring money to her contractor in Mexico.

In late August, she sent three bank-to-bank transfers totaling around more than $39,000. But somewhere between sending the money from her accounts at TD Bank in Manhattan to her contractor's bank in Merida, Mexico, they got lost.

"It didn't get there after five days," Bloor said. "I thought it never occurred to me there was a problem because they've always gotten there before."

So now work is at a standstill on the property she is building in the Yucatan, where the costume maker hosts a workshop to teach others her specialty, making fashion out of rubber.

"I check every couple of days and they say, 'Yes we're looking into it, we're looking into it,'" Bloor said.

In the beginning of September, TD Bank managed to return one of the wires. But weeks later, she's still looking for the rest, just under $28,000.

"It's very frustrating," Bloor said.

In the meantime, it's curtains up on three productions she has to fulfill.

It's like she needed a "fairy Godmother" to find the money. So 7 On Your Side made some calls to TD Bank.

Just days later, TD Bank returned every dollar Bloor tried to wire.

"I got my money back. I can't thank you enough," Bloor said.

Bloor never found out what caused the problems.

Bloor says, the bank also refunded hundreds in fees stemming from the failed transfers.

The big takeaway: When you're sending large amount of money send it bank-to-bank, not from your phone or your home computer.

The bank had a record because Janet did the transfer with a bank using the template the bank set up. Also keep your records of every transaction.

TD Bank gave a statement to 7 On Your Side saying:

"TD values our customers, and we take customer inquiries very seriously. In an effort to assist, we researched this matter extensively. We're delighted there was a happy ending for our Customer."
