A man is charged with sexually assaulting two children during a home invasion.

WANTAGE TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (WABC) -- A 33-year old man is accused of sexually assaulting two young children after breaking into their New Jersey home.

It happened last month in Wantage Township.

Police say Craig Lassiter of Middletown broke into the home and sexually assaulted two children under the age of 13 after telling them he had a gun and threatening them.

Troopers responding to a 911 call tried to stop a stolen vehicle allegedly driven by Lassiter, who they say drove over a mailbox and got away. The vehicle was soon found abandoned in a field.

Lassiter was arrested Sept. 22 in New York on charges of eluding and receiving stolen property. The sex assault charges and several other counts were filed Wednesday and made public Sunday.
