'Black-ish' returns for Season 4, isn't resting on its laurels
NEW YORK (WABC) -- "Black-ish" is back for Season 4 and continuing to innovate, and musical numbers inspired by the Broadway show "Hamilton" are just the latest signs the series is not resting on any of its laurels.
The sitcom has already won a Peabody Award -- which is among the most prestigious in all of broadcasting -- but that's not what means the most to the star of the show.
Anthony Anderson said the best part of his job is "working with these children these past five years now, since the pilot, and watching them grow professionally and personally and having a hand in some of that."
But has the show changed him?
"As a man? Not so much," he said. "As an actor, getting to work with Tracee Ellis Ross is amazing. You know we joke about it. I say, 'You know, I never received an Emmy nomination until I worked with you.'"

Both stars were nominated again this year, and Ross thinks she knows why.
"What I think is happening with my character is that she is bringing a full life to the screen," she said. "And the fact she is a person with many parts is being explored and shared, and that is not the way we always see women on television."

Both Ross and Anderson share a common goal to be authentic and honest, but they also share a unique chemistry.
"There's a magic that's happening with the material, with the specificity of point of view," Ross said. "How it is bumping up against the world that we are living in right now has lent itself to a very unique work experience that is extra special."
"Black-ish" airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on Channel 7.
