Firefighters battle tanker fire on LIE
Firefighters battled a tanker fire on the LIE.

HOLBROOK, Long Island (WABC) -- Firefighters on Long Island battled massive flames from a gasoline tanker fire early Saturday.

The State Transportation Department says it happened around 4:30 a.m. on the westbound service road to the Long Island Expressway at Exit 61 in Holbrook.

Both lanes of the service road were shut down. Some nearby homes were evacuated.

The fire was extinguished and no one was injured.

The cleanup was expected to last for hours, and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
