Video of suspects in Suffolk County vandalism spree
COMMACK, Long Island (WABC) -- Police are looking for the suspects who vandalized cars and homes in two towns in Suffolk County. New video was released of the suspects early Tuesday morning.
The damage to the cars included shattered windshields and broken side-view mirrors.
Police say some homes had their windows broken as well.
The incidents took place in Commack and East Northport.
The first calls came into 911 at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, and by mid-afternoon Monday, Suffolk County Police had logged at least 33 separate reports of vandalism.
Investigators believe as many as three young men in an SUV were responsible for the spree.
Surveillance video shows the SUV rolling up. Someone gets out on the driver's side and smashes a window with a crowbar or a baseball bat before they all drive away.
"I just came back from the hardware store and they said it's going to be over $1,000," said East Northport resident Steve Perrino as he stared at his damaged front door in disbelief.
Carol Pagnotta said the crash in her dining room woke up the entire house. "I came in and there was glass splattered everywhere," she said. "I mean even on the countertops, everywhere."
Video shows someone running away from the window with a baseball bat, while others try to topple a basketball court near the street.
There is no word on a possible motive. No one was injured in any of the incidents.
Residents have no idea why they were targeted, if there is a reason at all.
"Just because of some kids running around having fun in the middle of the night at everybody else's expense. It's terrible," said Perrino.
Police are urging any residents who may have surveillance video of the vandalism to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS to provide an anonymous tip which may lead to a cash reward of $2,500 if the tip leads to an arrest.
