3-alarm fire breaks out in Midtown, Manhattan restaurant

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A three-alarm fire broke out at the TGI Fridays in the heart of Midtown at 604 5th Ave. at 48th Street on Friday night.

According to the New York Fire Department, the fire started around 9 p.m. in the restaurant's basement and traveled through the building's duct work six floors to the roof.

Patrons who were dining at the restaurant and employees were able to get out in time.

The fire was placed under control around 10:30 p.m.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Richard Howe, 1 firefighter suffered a minor injury. No other injuries were reported.

Con Edison shut off utilities as fire marshals investigated the cause of the blaze. It is unclear if the fire is suspicious.

Fifth Avenue was closed between East 47th Street and East 51st Street.
