SHIRLEY (WABC) -- Police in Suffolk County say a child drowned Saturday night in a backyard swimming pool.

Justin McConville, 4, was with his mother Saturday at a backyard barbeque at the home of his mother's friends at 44 Alcolade Drive East when he was discovered by the host of the barbeque at the bottom of their 4-foot above ground pool at 7:11 p.m., police say.

The boy was pulled from the pool and the family started to perform CPR until an ambulance arrived.

The child was transported via Mastic Beach Rescue to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is continuing.
