NEW YORK (WABC) -- Two men died after a fishing boat capsized in Jamaica Bay.

Coast Guard and New York City Fire Department personnel responded when the boat ran into trouble just before 8 p.m. near Floyd Bennett Field.

Joel Ortiz, 50, of Crown Heights, and Ricardo Mejia, 42, of Flatbush, were apparently among five men on board fishing for sea bass. Ortiz and Mejia were taken to Beth Israel Hospital in critical condition and later died.

Two men on the boat were able to swim to shore and another was found clinging to the boat when help arrived. Two other men were in the water when they were rescued by authorities. It is unclear where Ortiz and Mejia were found.

The three survivors were taken to Coney Island Hospital with minor injuries.

The NYPD is investigating.
