NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police are investigating after a 6-foot long green snake was discovered in a grassy area near the playground in Washington Square Park in Manhattan on Sunday.

The snake was removed by the New York City Police Department Emergency Service Unit and taken to a shelter on Broadway.

Police believe it was a king snake or a corn snake and it is non-venomous in nature. They have no idea how it got into the park.
