92-year-old taxi driver suffers fatal medical emergency, crashes into Long Island home

OAKDALE (WABC) -- A 92-year-old taxi driver suffered a medical condition and crashed his cab into a home on Long Island Thursday morning.

Authorities say Joseph Saccente was driving his taxi northbound on Shore Road when he lost control, drove across lawns of multiple homes and struck multiple mailboxes before crashing into the den of the home located on Shore Road in Oakland at approximately 7:10 a.m.

Saccente, of West Sayville, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.

The home sustained severe damage, but luckily the five people inside the structure were not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

The vehicle, owned by Colonial Taxi, was impounded for a safety check.
