ABC News investigation into taxi meter violations in Newark

An ABC News investigation into the taxi and limousine industry catches companies that are taking customers for a ride when it comes to their fares.

The New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs recently inspected hundreds of taxis in Newark.

Officials found dozens of meter violations that led to higher fares.

Each cab was tested to see if its meter started charging for a mile before it reached a mile.

The Newark Cab Association told ABC News, "The majority of the cabs only work at the airport and only use the city flat-rate pricing, not the meter."

You can catch the entire exclusive report on "Good Morning America" Wednesday on Channel 7.
