Drone footage that captures the aftermath of a deadly earthquake in Italy today shows the contrast between the chaos in one hard hit town and the serenity of the sprawling countryside beside it.

The video pans from the affected area -- where some roofs are caved in, some buildings are destroyed and other lucky ones are still standing -- to the sprawling grass and trees beyond the town, and then to mountains in the distance. The video does not specify the town.

The central Italian towns of Accumoli and Amatrice were hard hit from the earthquake that struck in the middle of the night.

In the town of Amatrice, the damage was so extensive that its mayor told The Associated Press, "The town isn't here anymore."

Tremors were felt as far away as the capital city of Rome, located more than 100 miles away from the quake's epicenter.

Rescue workers today are searching through the rubble.

At least 73 people have been killed, according to Italy's Civil Protection Department.
