WEST NYACK (WABC) -- A passenger was killed and four others injured Thursday afternoon in a collision between a minibus and an ambulette in West Nyack.

The victim, 48-year-old Vincent Careccio, was being transported in the ambulette. The driver, 42-year-old Jean Saintilme, was the only other person in the vehicle and was listed in critical condition.

The accident happened at about 2:30 p.m. as the bus, with two passengers on board, was heading south on Route 303 in the vicinity of the Palisades Center Mall.

Police say the ambulette was in the intersection trying to make a left turn to go north on Route 303 when it was hit by the bus in a T-bone collision that sent the vehicles flying about 100 feet south of the crash.

The driver of the Brega Transport bus is identified as 64-year-old Marie Morisset, who was also critically injured.

Both Morisset and Saintilme are expected to survive. The two bus passengers, a 22-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, suffered only minor injuries. As of Thursday night, all the survivors were still hospitalized.

Route 303 from Palisades Center Drive North to Palisades Center Drive South was closed for the investigation.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and no summonses have been issued at this time.
