GARFIELD, N.J. (WABC) -- Police in New Jersey are investigating a series of bomb threats against four high schools and other public buildings.

Someone made threats against high schools in Fort Lee, Englewood, Hackensack and Garfield, as well as the Garfield Police Department, and the offices of the Leonia Board of Education.

Police say it started with the threat to the police department at around noon Wednesday. The building was cleared, but investigators didn't find any explosives there.

Then the threats to the schools started coming in at about 1 p.m. Those buildings were evacuated as well. Leonia's schools were also evacuated.

Police say all the locations have been cleared and no explosives have been found.

The threats in Bergen County are believed to be connected, and officials are looking at the possibility the threatening calls have an out of state link.

The FBI and State Police are involved and assisting Bergen County police.

At least five high schools in Massachusetts - including two in Boston - received bomb threats at about the same time Wednesday afternoon. Authorities are looking into any possible connection.
