PARK SLOPE, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A 4-year-old boy fell down an elevator shaft in a parking garage in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

He was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

It happened at around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at the garage located on Union Street.

The boy was apparently inside the elevator used for vehicles with his parents on the third floor, when he suddenly fell through the gap between the elevator and the wall.

The boy fell about 50 feet.

According to eyewitnesses, the rescue happened quickly because an FDNY firehouse is located across the street from the garage.

The Department of Buildings is responding to the scene for an investigation.
