Boy who fell in love dies of cancer
A boy with cancer who said he fell in love has died. Steve Campion reports.

CHESAPEAKE, Virginia -- It's simply heartbreaking news out of Virginia. An 8-year-old cancer patient who found his true love the final months of life has passed away.

In a Facebook posting, David Spisak's family says he died with his parents and friends by his side. He had beaten cancer multiple times, but each time, it came back.

"This day was supposed to come about 9-10 months ago but David just wasn't done living yet so he made his own timeline and defied the rules," wrote a family member on Facebook.

Then came the story of his last words.

"Yesterday, he was already no longer 'David,' didn't know who was speaking to him and none of his words made sense; I guess your mind takes you away before your body lets you go, a self-protective thing. But those of us who heard it will never forget the feeling we felt hearing the last clear thing he said yesterday morning, mixed up with the other random comments, was "David wants to be a hero."

In the final months of his life, David found the true 'love of his life' in classmate, Ayla, reported Norfolk station WTKR. The pair fell for each other quickly.

"In art class, I told her I liked her and she just had a surprised face so we started dating," David said back in November. "She is kinda like the real Snow White because she is so kind to everybody, especially me because she loves me."

They had their first date in November. They went bowling. David's mom says he was so excited he forgot he was in pain.
