Bronx police-involved shooting leaves suspect wounded

FORDHAM (WABC) -- A suspect was wounded early Sunday morning in a police-involved shooting in the Bronx.

According to the NYPD, two plain-clothed officers and a lieutenant were traveling on Webster Avenue in the Fordham section at about 2:45 a.m. when they heard additional shots fired towards the intersection of East 188 Street and Marion Avenue.

As they headed towards that intersection, the lieutenant saw a 23-year-old suspect with a gun in hand, and at the same time, heard additional shots fired in the direction of the suspect.

Police say the lieutenant ordered the suspect to drop the gun, when the suspect turned and pointed his firearm at the lieutenant.

The lieutenant fired five times at the suspect, hitting him in the left ankle. The suspect fled the scene, and was captured later on East 187 Street. He was taken to St. Barnabus Hospital where he is listed in stable condition, and is in police custody.

His gun was recovered on the street. No one else was injured and there have been no other arrests.
