FLATLANDS (WABC) -- A bullet struck an ambulette in Brooklyn Wednesday, injuring a passenger who was in the back seat.

The ambulette, with Sinai Van Service, was hit on Flatlands Avenue near East 51st Street in the Flatlands section at 12:30 p.m.

The bullet caused the front window to shatter, narrowly missing the driver and a 71-year old woman inside, but the woman was struck in the neck by a piece of flying glass.

She was taken to Kings County Hospital for treatment of a gash on the neck caused by the glass.

A 21-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene. It is not known why he fired the shot, but the ambulette is not immediately believed to have been the intended target.

An eyewitness at the scene says he heard five to six shots before he saw two men with guns running down Flatlands Avenue.

Surveillance video shows the ambulette driving eastbound along Flatlands Avenue before it makes an abrupt stop out of view.

Moments later one man appears to be chasing another with a pointed gun.
