Arsonist targeted black church in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Investigators now confirm that another black church has been targeted, this time by an arsonist.

The Briar Creek Road Baptist Church in Charlotte has sustained heavy damage from a fire that went to three alarms, early Wednesday morning.

"We completed our work on the scene and determined this was intentionally set," said Charlotte Fire Department Senior Fire Investigator David Williams. "Now we're asking the public to call us if they have any more information about the fire."

The three-alarm fire was reported before 1 a.m. Wednesday. According to the Charlotte Fire Department, firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire. More than 75 firefighters brought the blaze under control in an hour.

The cost to repair damages is estimated at a quarter million dollars.
