Construction worker killed in elevator shaft fall in Queens

SUNNYSIDE (WABC) -- One construction worker died and another was injured when they fell down a elevator shaft in Queens Thursday morning.

The incident happened at a school under construction on 42nd Avenue in Sunnyside.

One worker fell from the fifth floor of the building and was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

The other worker fell from the fourth floor. He was struck by falling debris, possibly his partner's harness.

He is listed in stable condition at Elmhurst Hospital.

The Department of Buildings will investigate.
