Crawford police sergeant dies while responding to suspected marijuana growing operation

CRAWFORD, N.Y. (WABC) -- A Town of Crawford police sergeant died on the job Thursday afternoon.

Sgt. Eric Meier, 51, passed away of an apparent heart attack while responding to a tip of a possible marijuana growing operation.

Another officer was on the scene conducting a search with Sgt. Meier when he suffered the heart attack.

He tried to help until an ambulance could reach the location which had to be cleared of boulders and trees.

He was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in Wallkill where he was pronounced dead.

Sgt. Meier is survived by his wife and two sons.
