Dog mauls mom, 2 children in Rockaway

ROCKAWAY (WABC) -- A mother and her two children were attacked by a stray Rottweiler in Rockaway Saturday morning.

According to the NYPD, a 31-year-old woman was walking around 9 a.m. along Beach Front Drive in the Arverne section when the dog approached them. It attacked the woman's face and hands.

Police said she tried to protect her children and suffered the worst injuries of the three. Police shot and killed the dog.

All three were taken to Jamaica Hospital for treatment. The woman's 4-year-old daughter had bites on her right hand, and her son, 10, suffered bites to his right forearm.

Their conditions were not available.

Investigators believe the animal was a stray and has no owner.
