Dispute over parking spot leads to shooting in East Village

A man was wounded in a shooting police believe stemmed from a fight over a parking spot in the East Village.

At about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old man was in a black Mercedes with several friends when they were looking for parking, according to the NYPD.

They came upon a spot on 3rd Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues, finding there was an orange cone placed at that location.

Police say the man exited his vehicle and went to remove the cone, people from the building came out, and there was a verbal dispute between them.

The man's friends exited the car and also got involved in the dispute.

Shortly after that, a physical altercation began and someone pulled out a gun and the male driver was shot once in the abdomen, police said.

The driver was taken by his friends to Bellevue Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.

So far there have been no arrests.
