Drunk boyfriend and girlfriend crash cars into each other, police say

FRESNO, Calif. -- Police in California say a boyfriend and girlfriend crashed their cars into each other while driving home drunk from a party.

The collision happened at Childs Avenue and S Street in Merced just before 1 a.m. Sunday. Officers say it started when Steven Murrieta, 30, and Cheng Saeturn, 29, left a nearby party in separate cars. Murrieta is accused of cutting through a park and taking out a barbecue pit, before running a stop sign and hitting his girlfriend's car.

Police say his blood-alcohol level was nearly five times the legal limit. He was taken to the hospital and then booked into jail.

Saeturn suffered a broken collar bone and was cited at the hospital because her blood-alcohol level was much lower than Murrieta's, according to authorities.
