Police searching for driver who fatally struck dog
Police on Long Island are searching for a driver who fatally struck a dog.

LEVITTOWN, Long Island (WABC) -- Police on Long Island have made an arrest after a dog was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Levittown.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, Ana Rodriguez, 37, of Levittown, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with an injury to an animal.

Around 4 p.m. Sept. 20 in Levittown, a 66-year-old woman was walking her Yorkie, Peanut, with an extender leash northbound on Center Lane.

The dog wandered into the roadway, and was struck and killed.

The driver of a blue Chrysler Pacifica stopped for only a moment and then left the scene without identifying themselves, police said.

Rodriguez is scheduled for arraignment Oct. 17.
