JERSEY CITY -- New information on a priest from Jersey City who fell to his death hiking in Oregon.
57- year old Father Robert Cormier served at St. Patrick and Assumption All Saints Parish.
Cormier reached the summit of Mount Hood then fell through an icy ridge.
He was Father Robert to some, Father Bob to others.
"He was always someone who felt like a friend. He'd say Mike you going to church, I'd say oh yes father, I am. He was a priest you could call a friend," said Mike Gonzales.
Father Cormier taught faith by all mean possible. He wrote several books on it and spread his message abundantly thru social media. Facebook, YouTube and of course at the many masses at the church.
"He cared so much about his parishoners. He spoke Spanish, French, Portugese, Polish, Russian," said Father Marc-Arthur Fancois.
And Italian. A minister and world traveler, he and 4 high school friends shared in adventures for 40 years. This year, it was climbing Mt Hood.
"They decided Mt. Hood would be their last climb," adds Gonzales.
Only 3 made the trip. On his Facebook page, Father Bob spoke about the upcoming trip, saying they were "Very much hoping to finish with a victory. I will report to you next Saturday".
His words will continue his work, his teachings of faith and love survive in those he touched and taught.
