July 4th fireworks show back at Jones Beach after 5 years

WANTAGH, N.Y. -- For the first time in five years, July 4th revelers at Jones Beach are being treated to a fireworks show.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the return of the 30-minute fireworks show on Tuesday.

Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1Aw9Y1m ) reports that budget woes forced the state to halt the shows in 2010. There were concerns the state could not afford the security costs for state park police to staff the event.

Prior to 2010, the show had been held for 15 straight years. It attracts crowds of about 100,000.

This year, several Long Island businesses are sponsoring the event. It starts at 9:30 p.m. on Independence Day.
