Long Island community rallies to help vet after home catches on fire
Kristin Thorne has the story from Central Islip.

CENTRAL ISLIP (WABC) -- When Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Brian Fox returned from Afghanistan in 2009, he gave himself a mission - to buy a house. [br /][br /]Unfortunately a fire swept through the second floor of his prized Central Islip home, taking all of the furniture and clothes with it.[br /][br /]"You work hard to get a house, and in a blink of an eye, everything is gone," said Sgt. Fox. [br /][br /]Most importantly, Fox's two daughters, wife and granddaughter made it all out. [br /][br /]"I ran down as fast as I could screaming 'fire!' and I went to the phone and dialed 911," said Sgt. Fox's daughter, Victoria. [br /][br /]There is no word yet on what started the fire, but for now, the family is staying at a hotel through the Red Cross. On Monday, Sgt. Fox is going to pick out a new trailer. [br /][br /]The local veterans are rallying behind Fox to help him including 'Boots on the Ground NY', which does so much to assist local soldiers. For that, Fox says he is extremely grateful. [br /][br /]"I'm glad I have the support group that I have," Fox adds. [br /][br /]Fox's battalion commander, Sgt. Major Arnold Reyes says they will be here for him every step of the way. [br /][br /]"Being veterans, we've seen a lot of tragedy and we know the effects of it," says Sgt. Major Reyes, "we know this is going to be a lingering think especially at this time of the moment July Fourth." [br /][br /]It was a weekend that Fox and his family should have been celebrating his service to our country. [br /][br /]"I'm just trying to put everything back together now, just one day at a time," he said.
