Long Island man arrested, charged with DWI while with his children

DIX HILLS, N.Y. (WABC) -- Police on Long Island arrested a man Friday night suspected of DWI with his children in the car.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, Mauricio Zamora, 40, of Ronkonkoma, crashed his 2014 Honda Accord into the median around 10:30 p.m. while westbound on the Long Island Expressway.

His daughters, ages 9 and 11, were in the vehicle at the time. They were transported to Huntington Hospital and were treated for minor injuries. Zamora was not injured.

Zamora was charged with aggravated DWI with a child (Leandra's Law), DWI and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The children were released into the custody of their mother.

Zamora was scheduled to appear in court in Central Islip Saturday morning.
