NEW YORK -- Authorities are on the scene of a manhole fire that broke out Sunday afternoon in the Bronx.

The explosion broke out in the parking lot of Montefiore Medical Center and set one car on fire.

The explosion caused some disruptions to the hospital, however the staff tells Eyewitness News that they are able to maintain power and patient care without using the generator.

These types of manhole explosions can be expected with the salt from previous plow trucks now running into the manholes. Another manhole went up in flames Sunday afternoon on 42nd Street near 2nd Avenue.

There were no injuries reported for both manhole fires.

The FDNY is on the scene at Montefiore helping with the fire.

The hospital van that was over the manhole and caught fire is a total loss.
