WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (WABC) -- A driver lost control of his Maserati and crashed into two stores on Long Island.

"How come a man is doing 100 miles an hour down this road?" a resident asked.

It's a question you can't help but ask when you see the crazy surveillance video of the moment this crash actually occurred.

The camera at Dashing Dan's Plumbing captured the whole thing. It was like an explosion as a Maserati barreled into two businesses on Higbie Lane in West Islip at around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

In fact, cameras from several angles caught the whole thing and so did at least two eyewitnesses.

"We heard the car flying around the corner," said James McCann, an eyewitness.

"The next thing we hear is just eee...bang!" said Joseph Cardona, an eyewitness.

In one video, the car's like a flame throwing missile shooting by.

Suffolk County Police say the driver of the Maserati is 40-year-old Michael Bidetti, who lives on the same street, just a few blocks away.

He wasn't home Tuesday and neither was his pricey car.

Miraculously, police say he was treated for only minor injuries after the mess.

The owners of the building housing Higbie Bagels and Flavor Crisp Chicken wonder why Bidetti hasn't been cited for reckless driving.

"Jumps the curb, breaks the curb, breaks the road, rips out the whole front of the stores, now what would be the reason for that man going that fast?" said Tony Castagna, the building owner.

Now it's worth noting that these stores are staples in this community. They've been there for more than 50 years, and while they'll continue to be, it will likely be weeks before they can reopen.

Fire marshals and a building inspector responded to the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
