HADDON TWP., N.J. -- A missing 3-year-old boy, who had been the subject of a search on Tuesday morning in Haddon Township, New Jersey, has been found dead.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office say the boy was reported missing at 6 a.m. from the home of a family member in the 100 block of Cooper Street.

A K-9 tracked him to a wooded area off South Park Drive, about eight blocks away, where the boy was found dead shortly before 9 a.m.

Police gathered at the scene, which is near the Cooper River. Meanwhile, more than a dozen detectives could be seen near the boy's home.

Andrew McNeil, the public information officer for the prosecutor's office, says an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

McNeil said this is "a very ongoing and active investigation." He would not say if there were any signs of injury to the child.

Reverse 911 calls went out to the community early Tuesday morning, and some volunteers joined in the search.

While the child's name has appeared on social media posts, investigators are not releasing the name officially. Those social media posts say the boy was last seen wearing pajamas and neon socks.
