Monmouth County teacher facing sexual assault charges

FREEHOLD, N.J. -- A teacher at Monmouth Regional High School in Tinton Falls is facing charges he had inappropriate sexual conduct with a student under the age of 18.

Twenty-nine-year-old Nicholas DePue, of Jackson, has been charged with second-degree counts of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The Monmouth County prosecutor's office says he was released after posting a $100,000 bond. Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Jamie Perri has ordered he have no contact with the victim and barred DePue from the scene of the alleged crimes.

Officials say the alleged conduct occurred around the beginning of March in Tinton Falls.

DePue faces up to 10 years in prison for each charge.

A call and an email to DePue's lawyer were not immediately returned.
