Jersey retired in honor of boy killed in hit and run
AJ Ross reports from Jersey City.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (WABC) -- A father is demanding justice for the heartless driver who struck and killed his precious little boy.

It's been three months since 8-year-old Jermaine Woodward was mowed down in Jersey City, and still there are no clues about who did it.

Friday night, the Little League team Jermaine played on, honored his memory by retiring his jersey.

"He touched a lot of hearts to be an 8-year-old," said Tamara Barker, Jermaine's mother.

Friday night lights were a special glow in Lincoln Park as the Jersey City Gators honored Jermaine, a young talent with limitless potential both on and off the field and gone entirely too soon.

"It was everything he always talked about the Gators, his favorite NFL team was the Giants," Barker said.

"Great student, loved sports, he loved school, he was a wonderful kid," said Jermaine Woodward Sr., Jermaine's father.

Jermaine was tragically struck and killed by two cars as he was standing in the bike lane attempting to cross Bostwick Avenue in June.

A star wide receiver and defensive back with the Gators, the team honored Jermaine and his family by retiring his number 19.

"It's a sad tragedy, it's a loss for our school and community and everyone who knew him," said Edwin Lopez, Jermaine's Teacher. "His name will never be in vain, we're going to keep this name going."

His father says the support from Jermaine's team, school, and even perfect strangers has been overwhelming, and as the family continues to wait for word from the prosecutor's office, they're praying for justice.

"It's hard, it's real hard," Woodward Sr. said, "Maine is in our dreams, Maine is going to live in our dreams, Maine is going to remain in us."

Jermaine's family has also started a social media campaign using #JusticeforlilMaine in hope additional tips or info will be brought forward to authorities about Jermaine's tragic accident.
