PARLIN, N.J (WABC) --Nisarg Swaminarayan couldn't believe what he was seeing.
Swaminarayan's phone suddenly got an alert through the Dropcam security system which is connected to security cameras in his home. It warned him that the sliding glass door in his Parlin, N.J., house had been left unlocked.
"These cameras detect sound and motion movements," said Swaminarayan , 29, who was having dinner with relatives nearby at the time.
The burglar walked in with his flashlight while the cameras rolled. Swaminarayan watched the burglar scoop up electronic equipment he was planning to take on vacation. "It was the real thing and it was happening to me," he said.
But the burglar never expected to hear a voice from one camera's loudspeaker. Swaminarayan was able to yell at him through the loudspeaker. It was "out heat of the moment," he said.
It worked - the burglar got scared off and thanks to the footage, it wasn't long before police caught up with the accused burglar, Oliver Alavez-Luengas, 22, of South Amboy.
Alavez-Luengas was using an alias and had drastically changed his appearance. He is now being held at the Middlesex County jail on $25,000 bail.
