LODI, N.J. (WABC) -- An indictment has been handed up against a New Jersey teacher accused in a drunk-driving crash.

Michael Ettz faces aggravated assault and other charges for the April incident on Route 46 in Lodi.

Prosecutors say Ettz, a teacher at Lodi High School, left Bergen County police officer Daniel Breslin with a fractured skull and other injuries after hitting Breslin's cruiser.

Around 1:50 a.m. near Summit Avenue, Breslin was pulled over in his cruiser alongside the other officer's car, assisting him with a broken radio, when his car was rear-ended by Ettz's vehicle.

Breslin, 39, needed surgery and was hospitalized in critical condition.

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission confirms that Ettz had his license suspended on Nov. 19, 2012, for a previous conviction for operating under the influence.
